  • Product and Process Designer, Engineering Department

The Company

Preformed Line Products is a worldwide designer, manufacturer and supplier of high quality cable anchoring systems, control hardware systems, fiber optic and copper splice closures. We are hiring a Product and Process Designer for our Cambridge, Ontario facility.

Job Description:

The Product and Process Designer will be responsible for supporting the activities in the engineering department to ensure product development goals are achieved in a timely manner. This position reports to the Engineering and Quality Manager. The successful applicant will use their strong problem-solving ability to support the changing and growing environment of a large company.

Job Duties include:

  • Create and manage 3D models and 2D drawings for parts and assemblies
  • Create and manage shop documents (work orders, bills of materials, etc)
  • Manage design projects to completion
  • Write technical procedures, test reports and other documents
  • Support the manufacturing team through process reviews, continuous improvements and tooling designs
  • Engage in new product development including hands-on assembly of samples as needed
  • Engage in process development including efficiency analysis, tooling development and process adaptation for new products
  • Participate in product quality reviews and conduct technical analysis as required
  • Support the review and interpretation of customer specifications and industry standards with respect to product design and validation (e.g. ASTM, CSA, IEEE, etc)
  • Manage product testing programs and develop test procedures
  • Support supplier evaluations from a technical perspective


  • Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma or Engineering Degree (Mechanical preferred)
  • 3D modeling and drafting of parts and assemblies (Pro Engineer preferred)
  • MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc)
  • AutoCAD 2D
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and documentation such as work orders, bills of materials, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, finds solutions, and implements changes and/or improvements.
